by Darius Rucker
“It Won’t Be Like This for Long” is a single by American singer Darius Rucker, who is the former lead vocalist of the popular 90′s rock band Hootie & the Blowfish. It is the second single released from his first country music album, Learn to Live. Rucker co-wrote the song with Chris DuBois and Ashley Gorley.
The song describes a couple who have just had a baby, and throughout it follows how their lives change by the child’s presence, starting out with the frustration of the child crying through the night, followed by a later point in life when she won’t let go of the father’s leg when he is dropping her off for her first day of school. By the end of the song, the father is watching the child sleep and realizes that his daughter won’t be a little girl for long, and it simply breaks his heart.
How could you not love this song? I also happened to enjoy Hootie and the Blowfish back when they were popular, so seeing him cross over to a new genre is pretty cool. Country music seems to be a natural fit for Darius Rucker.
